That is correct. You cannot start tracking the progress of your tax return until 24 hours after acceptance. The IRS Where's My Refund site is updated daily (usually in the overnight hours) so you don't need to check more often.

@Arlenew773, you are getting this message on the IRS Where's My Refund site?

Yes,

I received a message from Turbotax that my return was accepted. I go on the IRS website answer all the questions correctly and it still doesn't recognize I filed as well as over the phone. Phone service tells me to check in a week.

To ease your mind, you can verify whether or not you e-filed through the link provided below.

E-file status lookup.

Besides that, the IRS is working a backlog of returns and they will get to yours soon.

Please see below.

Why is there no record of my return at Where's My Refund ...

That’s the point! I got the email the day I filed (the 27th) and it still says I have to wait till 24 hrs after I get the email! But I already got it and still can’t check my refund status. Why is it doing that. Does the IRS really not have my refund ?

From my experience last year when I didn't receive an update then my 21 days past.  After 30-45 days and calling and finally speaking to someone they told me they are still reviewing.  It took about 6 months before they told me to file an amendment. Hopefully this is not going on for any of us. Literally when I filed the amendment NOTHING changed even my refund amount. It was like they were buying time to pay.

Now it no longer mentions anything regarding 24 hours.  This is the reply below.

We cannot provide any information about your refund. Be sure to:

  • verify your filing date;
  • check with your tax preparer or tax software provider; or
  • verify you received your electronically filed acknowledgement e-mail.

I have checked my filing dates.
