I forgot to include my points paid on purchase of principal residence and mortgage interest received on my original return, do I have to amend my return?

I filed my return thinking I had all the mortgage information I needed, I recently received another 1098 from the initial mortgage company we purchased the house from. Do I need to amend my 2018 return or can I add it to next years return?

If you want to claim any additional deduction that might result from these amounts then, yes, you'll need to amend your previously-filed 2018 return to claim them.

You can't claim them on next year's return.

Please see the TurboTax FAQ "How to amend (change or correct) a return you already filed," below, for instruction on how to amend your previously-filed tax return.

Please note, however, that Form 1040X, the Amended Return form you need t amend, isn't yet available for filing yet.  It won't be ready until 02/22/2019.
