Am I unable to amend my return right now due to the 2017 amend form not being ready yet?
No worries, you can file Form 1040X within three years from the date you filed your original tax return or within two years of the date you paid the tax, whichever is later. https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/ten-facts-on-filing-an-amended-tax-return
I forgot to put my student loan interest on 2022 taxes! I understand I need to fill out a 1040X, but what line do I put that number on?

If the return is accepted you will have to amend your original tax return. An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 16 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.
Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.
