@barbaramerlie asked: "I filed my 2024 tax return using TurboTax on my laptop but the file is now gone. Where can I find it?"
Does "on my laptop" mean you installed software? If you used desktop software, is it for Windows or Mac?
In Windows the default folder for the *.tax2024 data file is the Documents\TurboTax folder. So look there first. Otherwise, search the entire computer system for any file ending in *.tax2024 and also look in the Recycle Bin. A few users have stated theirs ended up mysteriously in OneDrive. Also if you have multiple Windows user accounts, look and search in each one
It's always good to backup the data file and any PDFs in case you have any computer glitches, crashes, theft, etc. Remember these are very sensitive files since they contain your personal info, financial data, and even bank account numbers so store them safely and securely.
Thanks. Yes, I use the desktop version for mac. I've checked all over including one drive and my icloud accts.
Interestingly enough, when I sign into my intuit account and request the email code for verification, I never get the email. I've checked my spam/trash/etc and there's nothing. Is something going on with intuit?
For a Mac, see if this helps any:
FAQ: How do I find my tax data file (.tax file) in Mac?
I don't know much about Mac. If you still don't find it as in that FAQ, you can wait to see if some other user familiar with a Mac joins in this thread, or you can phone TurboTax Support. I will give a link below.
You wrote: "When I sign into my intuit account and request the email code for verification, I never get the email. I've checked my spam/trash/etc and there's nothing."
Are you referring to two-step (two-factor) authentication when signing in, and are you saying that you cannot log into your Intuit account because you don't receive the 6-digit authentication code that it's sending to your email? If so, we can tell you a way to gain access to your Intuit Account that doesn't require such a code, and once in your account you can go to the account settings page and review/verify your email address there, or edit to update it, if needed.
If needed, TurboTax Support phone hours are 5AM-5PM Pacific, Monday-Friday
on my windows desktop Turbotax it's c:\users\user_name\documents\turbotax. if you are using W11 then when
if you see a file that starts with a "~" that's the backup file that's created (not sure in W11) as soon as you open or create the actual file. it can be used. if the laptop came with w11 preinstalled the default might have been to store documents on the web on one drive
