I e-filed my returns, which were both "accepted". Then, I filled out the Amended Return form. now it says "Ready to Mail". Will I still get my original refund deposited?

I originally e-filed federal and state taxes and got returns approved by both. Then, I received a form in the mail which indicated to me I needed to amend my income, so I began the Amend Return form on TurboTax. It took me through everything and now I have a document I am supposed to mail in to the IRS and State (but have deadline). But according to who I spoke to at TurboTax, my original returns were e-filed successfully (even though IRS site doesn't list it at "refund approved" yet). Will I still receive my original refund(s), or did TurboTax (re)submit the Amended Forms to the IRS/indicate to them that forms are coming in the mail and to hold off on the refund?

An amendment is separate form your original file.

If you want to make changes or add a document to a tax return that has already been submitted, you should follow these guidelines.

  • You must first wait until the initial return is completely processed.
  • You will have to use the same TurboTax account that you used for the original tax return.
  • Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return.
  • The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due
  • Only make changes to the areas of your return that need amending.
  • You have three years from the date you filed your return or two years after you paid the tax due (whichever is later) to file an amendment
