How To Amend 2023 Return To Add 1099-S After Filing

Literally the day after I filed and paid my taxes, I received a surprise 1099-S in the mail.  I did not "sell" property, but I granted an easement to the power company that they had to have.

Now I cannot see how to Amend my filing to add this 1099-S.

Any instruction I see about this says the form 1099-S would have generated had I said I sold property in the original TurboTax interview.  In the interview I said no, as I didn't sell property and didn't realize that this is what this would be considered (I honestly didn't even recall this transaction!)

Now I do not see how to Amend the Return to add the 1099-S.

Any help and guidance is truly appreciated.

Thanks !

Here are the guidelines and instructions for amending a return. I also included a link at the bottom that will guide you on entering the 1099-S.

If you want to make changes or add a document to a tax return that has already been submitted, you should follow these guidelines.

  • You must first wait until the initial return is completely processed.
  • You will have to use the same TurboTax account that you used for the original tax return.
  • Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return.
  • The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due
  • Only make changes to the areas of your return that need amending.
  • You have three years from the date you filed your return or two years after you paid the tax due (whichever is later) to file an amendment

Select your product below and follow the instructions.
