I processed my amendment on the turbotax website and sent my papers in the mail back in February, I just now found the link for the irs amendment return check, it says no record on file, what could be wrong? It was about 16 weeks ago?
Did you send them certified mail, or with a tracking number?
gamerly:
You need to phone the IRS and inquire about it.
1-800-829-1040
Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. your local time
I called the number but I got a recording similar to what the website which just said there was so record on file, do you guys think I should just send the paperwork again?
If you got a recording you chose the wrong option. I suspect you chose Option 1. And once you choose that option, you won't be able to get a live agent. in the same phone call. Here are the steps to follow:
At the first prompt, select your language.
There will be a short message about using the website.
Next, select the reason for your call. Choose option 2 "about your account."
Listen to ALL the options, then choose "none of these".
Eventually it will say to hold on while it transfers you to an agent.
That *should* get you to a live agent. But another option would be to call that main IRS number, and at every prompt, press the # button. Since it won't know what you mean, it should eventually transfer you to a live agent, but you likely will encounter a wait until it's your turn.
it takes 8-12 weeks for the IRS to process an amended return. Here is a tool on the IRS website where you can track your amended return.
NOTE: It takes about 3 weeks from the date you mailed the amended return for it to show up in the IRS system.

Processing of an amended return can take 8-12 weeks. The IRS website at the link in my answer above says "up to 12 weeks." That doesn't mean that all will take that long. Hopefully you will see some change soon.
@Candy, my amended return wait has just begun as they only got it last week but I have been reading through quite a few forums on other sites and it seems that simple things like adding a dependent or a w-2 are going quickly like under 6 weeks. And those who are amending for certain credits such as education, or the first time home buyer are having delays just as those who claimed those on original returns. Not sure what your amendment was for, but these could be reasons why you are at 8 weeks already
It can take up to 12 weeks for an amended return to process. You can check on its status using this website:
<a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://www.irs.gov/filing/wheres-my-amended-return">https://www.irs.gov/filing/wheres-my-amended-return</a>
If you can't get any info, or it has been longer than 12 weeks, you can phone the IRS to check on its status:
IRS: 800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Mon-Fri
When calling the IRS do not choose the first choice re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 4 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions." It should then transfer you to an agent.
My amended return was accepted on 06/11/14 but as of today (10/01/14) the status has NOT changed. It is going into week 17 and no one from IRS can tell me what is going on other than to wait. So frustrated!
Not sure what you mean that an amended return was "accepted." "Accepted" is a term used for an efiled original return. Since an amended return is mailed, perhaps you mean that is the date the IRS posted its status on their website?
In any case, if you are having trouble getting the IRS to give you info about your return, you can enlist the Taxpayer Advocate Service to help you. At the following IRS website, find the USA map and click on your state, and it will give you the number of your IRS Taxpayer Advocate.
<a href="http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-a-Local-Taxpayer-Advocate" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-a-Local-Taxpayer-Advocate</a>
If you are unsuccessful with the Taxpayer Advocate for your area, you can also try the special IRS phone number for the Taxpayer Advocate Service at 877-777-4778.

I sent mine in February, 2014 and just received word that the funds should be released today 10/3/2014. I checked my bank account and it is not there yet. I requested a direct deposit however when I spoke with a rep I did not confirm that was the method of payment.
Amended returns that you have to mail to the IRS since they cannot be e-filed do Not have a direct deposit option. A refund from an amended return, form 1040X, will be sent by the IRS as check to the address shown on the amended return.
That's not true. If you were originally set up for direct deposit or the turbo tax card through turbo tax that will be the way u will receive it.
They only mail checks for refunds. No Direct Deposit.
See 1040X instructions top of page 17
https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040x.pdf
It says.....You will receive a check for any refund due to you. A refund on an amended return can’t be deposited directly to your bank account.
Ok my amendment was complete on the 12/30/2019 but a check was sent out on the 12/20/19 of December why haven’t I received it can anyone tell me how much long to wait or Has this happened to one of yall
When you get a refund for an amended tax return the IRS mails you a check. No one at TurboTax can track that check for you. If it does not arrive soon you will need to call the IRS. 800-829-1040
The IRS issues most refunds in about 21 days, although some returns take more time to review.
To find out where your refund is, first check your e-file status. If it's been processed and accepted, you can begin to track your refund at the IRS Where's My Refund? site.
Did you file your amended return? I need to file mine too but turbo tax keeps changing the date. I seen on another forum someone got their refund in 5 weeks.
I see you cheered my above comment. However, that comment was from 2014, and has some outdated info in it. This is an old thread from several years ago that transferred into this new community forum in June 2019. Unfortunately, all those old threads were given a June 2019 date instead of keeping their original dates. So many threads in this forum can actually be quite old if they appear to have a date around the end of May 2019 or early June 2019.
It was in 2014 that the IRS was saying "up to 12 weeks." Currently the IRS website says it can take "up to 16 weeks" to process an amended return.
