If you have not e-filed or printed and mailed the tax return you can still make any changes needed.

To access your current year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

When you sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page, scroll down and click on Add a state.

This will take you back to the 2023 online tax return.

That's just it. I did finish the return. The fed was efiled and the state was printed. It was only then that I realized my mistake on the state return. Is there any way I can correct that?

Yes, but you will not be able to correct your mistake on your federal return, until your return is either rejected (then you can make the correction and resubmit) or accepted.  If it is accepted you will have to click on Amend My Return when you log back into your return. Answer the questions as to what needs changed, then follow the steps to make the changes.

If you have not yet mailed your state return, it is best to hold off until after you make the corrections on the federal return.

Federal returns are not being accepted by the IRS until January 29th, so you will not get a rejection or acception notice until then.

Amendment forms are generally not available until several weeks after the IRS starts accepting returns, so somewhere in late February or early March you will be able to fix your return.

What state?  Many of the state forms for tax year 2023 have not been finalized so if yours is one of the states where the forms are still waiting to be finalized your state return was not filed.

Just noticed you have a New York state return.  All the NY state forms have been finalized so disregard by prior post.

I didn't make a mistake on my federal tax return. Only the state return. Which was not exiled but was printed. Is there a way to correct the state return?

Since the state return shows as printed, it was not e-filed with the federal return.  You can go back to the state return and make your corrections.  After the federal return is accepted by the IRS, you will receive an email from TurboTax when the IRS accepts the federal return.  Then you can now e-file the state return in the File section of the program.

As previously stated you can go back to the TurboTax online program and make your corrections on the state return.

This will take you back to the 2023 online tax return.  When on the 2023 online tax return click on State on the left side of the online program screen.  Then follow the state interview to make your changes.

OK. Thank you so much! Clicking "Add a state" worked. Seemed counter intuitive to me. But, I'm back in. So, thanks again!

@kkolo66

"Seemed counter intuitive to me."

It is bizarre.

Why can't they just have a "Resume working on it" button?
