@pczick Unfortunately, you will have to wait until the IRS discovers the duplicate payment.  Once they see the double payment, they will send you the extra payment.  It can take awhile for them to send it. Try the following steps, it may help you get through to the IRS to see if they can help.

  • Call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 during their support hours
of 7 AM to 7 PM local time Monday to Friday.
  • Select your language, pressing 1 for English or 2 for Spanish.
  • Press 2 for questions about your personal income taxes.
  • Press 1 for questions about a form already filed or a payment.
  • Press 3 for all other questions.
  • Press 2 for all other questions.
  • Make no entry when queried for the SSN.
  • Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
  • Press 3 for all other questions.

Yes, if you had more withholding over the year than was due, or if you paid an estimated tax that was too much, you just need to file your tax return to reconcile it and it will be refunded.

That's not what I'm asking. I evidently set up direct payment of taxes when Turbo tax filed my return in March. But I couldn't find a record of it anywhere. No emails with confirmation number. Nothing. So on Tuesday, April 18, I was worried I hadn't set it up especially when it hadn't been deducted by late in the day from my account. I tried accessing my IRS account but they said they couldn't verify it was me. So, I set up direct pay. Within six hours, my bank account had two withdrawals from the IRS for the same amount. I have been unsuccessful in getting  help from the IRS or from Turbo Tax.

What should I do?
