If you haven't mailed or e-filed, you can go back into that return and make the needed income changes.

If your return thinks you have already printed and filed, these are directions to get back inside of the return to add income.

  • Under Your tax returns & documents, select Amend (change) return. (You’ll not actually be amending your taxes.)
  • Select Amend using TurboTax Online.
  • Then click the section you need to update.

If your return is still active and you are already inside the return, you can just go back to the section you need to update.

After you make the changes do you just reprint all the returns and mail them?

Tonita's answer is incorrect.  I had this situation arise today.  When I went to make the change, it said I must wait until 2/26 when the 1040X doc is available.  I HAVEN'T EVEN SENT THE TAX form in yet!  I just want to go into TurboTax and make a change.

Right, if you haven't mailed in your taxes yet, you can simply go back in and make the change and reprint. When the print and mail option is selected, the program thinks you have filed, so to get around this and get back in to make changes, please see the instructions below:

How to get back into make changes online when mailing

  1. In TurboTax Online, sign into your account.

  2. Select Tax Home in the left menu.

  3. Scroll down to Your tax returns & documents.

  4. Select 2020, and then select Add a State (you're not actually adding a state, this just gets you into the right menu).

  5. Now you can make any necessary changes.

I am unable to achieve what you say.  While I can change my state taxes, I am unable to reenter the federal module.

I wasn't actually planning to filing my taxes, I was only trying to create a working hard copy.  Now it appears I can't change it, and it was not my intention this be the final iteration, as I was always intending to e-file.

@Thisnameisstupid Ok, try following the instructions in the link below. This will guide you to change from mail to e-file your return since you have printed. I should have added this above for you, after adding a state to get back in to - Select File in the left menu (expand your browser window if you don't see this, or select the menu icon in the top left corner). Then you can go to the section you need to make changes in and complete e-filing.

How do I change from mail to e-file in TurboTax Online?

If the above instructions did not work, maybe you did already e-file your federal.

Please check your e-file status here -

How do I check my e-file status? to see if your return was submitted. When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax.  The first one states  that your return was submitted. The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected.  If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state or rejected your state return.

It is ridiculous that after printing you can’t make changes. What am I supposed to do? I can’t amend until the end of the month, but that is only a form for already filed taxes. I suppose I have to buy more software and start all over!!!!!

You can revisit the section you need to edit.

1. Log into your online Turbo Tax account.

2. Click on the section you would like to review.

3. Then click on "Federal" or "State", on the left side.

4. Then you will look near the top to navigate to the specific section you would like to revisit and edit.
