so i filed last year in April and put a bank account that was closed in September on file with them but had never received my return until December... i called the bank that the deposit went to so they issued a return to trubotax... ive called and asked multiple times of how to change my account info to receive this return but have gotten no help
The deposit could not have gone back to TT, since TT never receive refunds in the first place. Did you ask to have to have TT fees deducted from your refund? Then it went to Tax Products Group to handle that (and thus back to them). Otherwise, it would have gone back to the IRS. In either case, that entity would have then mailed you a paper check. So go back to your bank and find out exactly to whom they returned the deposit. The contact that entity.
If you have not filed your 2020 return yet you can enter your banking information in the FILE section before you file your 2020 return. If you have already filed a 2020 return it is too late to change it. If your refund or stimulus check goes to a closed account it will go back to the IRS and then they will mail you a check.
