I filed my taxes with the free edition and now I am trying to amend my return but it changed me to having the free edition to the deluxe and now their saying i have to pay $80 to get it done.
You can't downgrade a return that's already been filed, since downgrading requires one to "clear and start over", which cannot be done on a filed return. If you truly don't need Deluxe, TurboTax Customer Support can assist you with that dilemma.
Why were you amending? Perhaps you added something that can't be handled in Free Edition and requires Deluxe. Examples would be student loan interest, education credits, retirement savings credit, dependent child credit, itemized deductions, foreign earned income, anything requiring Schedules 1-3, etc.
