How can I find out if I'm getting a deduction for my wife being blind? I can't find it in any category.

I listed her as blind in personal info section

Look on line 12 of your Form 1040.

PREVIEW 1040

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.

Your standard deduction lowers your taxable income.  It is not a refund.  You will see your standard or itemized deduction amount on line 12 of your 2022 Form 1040.

2022 STANDARD DEDUCTION AMOUNTS

SINGLE $12,950  (65 or older + $1750)

MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY $12,950  (65 or older + $1750)

MARRIED FILING JOINTLY $25,900  (65 or older + $1400 per spouse)

HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD  $19,400  (65 or older +$1750)

Legally Blind + $1750

You can also preview your Form 1040.   There should be checkmarks in the Spouse is Blind box.  See the image below.

  1. Select Tax Tools from the menu
  2. With the Tax Tools menu open, you can then:
    • Preview your entire return: Select Print Center and then Print, save, or preview this year's return (you may be asked to register or pay first)
    • View only your 1040 form: Select Tools. Next, select View Tax Summary in the pop-up, then Preview my 1040 in the left menu

On the actual Form 1040, the box will be marked higher up on the page.
