Do I need to claim previous year's State and Federal refund?

When filling for year 2018, do I need to claim the refund I received from filing year 2017?

No, you do not need to claim your federal refund from the 2017 tax return.

It depends if you need to report your state refund

  • If you used the Standard Deduction in your 2017 tax return then you do not need to report it.
  • If you used the Itemized Deduction in your 2017 tax return then you need to report it.
