Do I need to amend my return if I file form 14157?

I filed through a tax preparer for the first time ever and of course a huge mistake. I have filled out forms 14157 and 14157a and also refilled tax’s under TT just so I could print and mail in the return intended to be filed with my paperwork as required. My question is do I need to amend my return or will the IRS take care of with everything I send them?

The preparer left out income, lied about a business I don’t have and falsified my address ext. Filed my taxes without allowing me to view them and refused to give me a copy after they told me they filed them.

Since the other tax preparer has filed your return, you will need to amend.  When you amend you can include the 14157 and 14157a as well as the documents TurboTax will instruct you to send.  Putting the 14157a on the top.

The IRS will have the original return and will need the amendment as a correct version.  Mail to

Attn: Return Preparer Office 401 W. Peachtree Street NW Mail Stop 421-D Atlanta, GA 30308

Open this TurboTax link and follow the instructions to amend your tax return.

The following IRS link is very helpful in understanding the amendment process.

Thank you, I have one more question. Should I send everything to the address above or to the address on the slip that came with my audit letter? The 14157 form states if I received a letter from the IRS to send it to the address in the letter but on the slip that came with my letter it says it’s for payments so I’m a little confused. Thank you so much for your help.

Since you have someone in the audit department looking at your return, send the whole package to them.  It's much better to have someone familiar with your file then to start over with someone else.  If they need to pass it to another department, they will do that.  Also, it will let the audit department know what steps you are taking to remedy the situation.

Did you ever receive your taxes? If so, how long did it take. I’m going through a similar situation and my Tax Advocate is handling it.
