I received a 4800c letter proposing a change to my refund for the 2022 tax year. The letter is stating that the IRS proposes changing my wage income and withholdings to reflect their records, which amounts to 0 dollars. In the letter, it gives options of documentation to provide support and proof of what is in the original return. None of the options listed include a copy of a W2. I am wondering if I can simply provide a W2 as said supporting proof. Since I filed digitally, on my cell phone, I did not attach them to my original return.
Sounds like the W-2 is the way to go but it would be reassuring to hear that from the IRS if you can contact them.
check the w-2 is that your correct SSN? is it the correct year? if it is the problem may be that the employer never submitted w-2's to the SSA which forwards w-2 info to the IRS. as suggested, I would try calling the IRS first but if you can't get through send a copy not the original to the IRS with its notice and an explanation that you're enclosing a w-2 received from your employer that apparently is not on file.
