Can I Retroactively Claim Head of Household Status and Dependents on Past Tax Returns?

This year I filed my taxes as head of household because my mom doesn't work and has no source of income; I cover practically 100% of her expenses. Last year, in 2023, I did my 2022 taxes but I didn't claim her as a dependent, even though in 2022 she was entirely my responsibility. Is it possible to make any corrections to that tax return I filed in 2023 for the year 2022? Can I get any money back through a correction? Thank you.

I already filed my 2023 tax return and it was accepted by the IRS

If you need to amend a past tax return you can do so; it is too soon to amend 2023.   You need to wait for the IRS to fully process your 2023 return and then use a Form 1040X to amend 2023; that form is not available yet.  It will be available later in February.

If you qualify as Head of Household, when you enter your marital status (single or married filing separately) into MyInfo, and then enter your qualifying dependent, TurboTax will offer HOH as your filing status.
