She has 3 years to amend her tax return.    She will still get her refund whether she answered yes or no.   If you want to make changes or add a document to a tax return that has already been submitted, you should follow these guidelines.

  • You must first wait until the initial return is completely processed.
  • You will have to use the same TurboTax account that you used for the original tax return.
  • Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return.
  • The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due
  • Only make changes to the areas of your return that need amending.
  • You have three years from the date you filed your return or two years after you paid the tax due (whichever is later) to file an amendment

@kennon1967   You really need to keep all your posts and replies in the same thread.  Like on one thread you said that her return was Rejected.  If her return was Rejected she just need to change it to YES she can be claimed and refile the original return.  She does NOT amend her return.  You only amend if the first return was Accepted or mailed.

One of the other answers you got was how to change that answer.  But you need to  make sure that you can claim her.  How old is she?  How much income did she have?  Did she get a W2 or 1099NEC, etc.

Who can you claim
