Ammending 2019 taxes

I just finished ammending my 2019 taxes and I want to e-file them. It says "New as of August 2020, you may be eligible to e-file your amended return. If you would like to e-file click the File tab above to proceed." I click on the File tab and don't see any option to e-file. pleaase help.

Are you attempting to e-file using the CD/Download software or TurboTax Online?

Hi -

I am trying to do the same thing, i.e. e-file an amended 2019 return, which per the IRS is now available. I am not seeing this option, and I am using TurboTax Online.

How do I address this?

Thanks!

Actually, the question I asked is not relevant in this situation.

The reason you don't see the option to e-file is because the 1040X amendment form is not available for printing (and mailing) or e-filing until 03/25/2021.

Thanks for the update!

I am able to save for printing and mailing right now, but I will wait until March 25 to see if I can e-file then.

I purchase the software annually. I have the discs for 2016, 17, 18 & 20...... cannot for the life of me find my 2019 disc! Apparently, I never entered the information from my 1095-A in 2019. The IRS sent me a letter stating I need to complete the form 8962. I thought it would be easier to simply ammend my 2019 Federal return. How can I do that without the actual disc?

Do not amend the return. Follow these steps, which are the same for 2019: The IRS is requesting Form 8962 for 2020.

You will need at least the PDF for the 2019 tax year. If needed, go to the IRS site and request the Record of Account type of transcripts to see everything for that year: Get Transcript | Internal Revenue Service

For more information, see: How do I get a copy of my tax return or transcript from the IRS?

You may be able to reply to the Notice filling out this if it does not change your tax:

To amend a return

Some quick ground rules:

  1. Be sure the original return was filed and accepted.
  2. DO NOT go back into the return or change anything before you start the amendment process.
  3. Gather everything you need before you start.
  4. Complete the entire amendment process before you log out.
  5. Starting with 2020 tax returns you can E-File a 1040-X amended tax return.  All prior years must be printed and mailed.

You can correct a return that you've already filed and had accepted.  Select the year that applies and use this guide to proceed.

Select your tax year for amending instructions:
