Amending to add home office deduction

Hello,

I am trying to amend my 2023 filing, which was originally filed on desktop premier, to include a home office deduction for my 1099 income. I paid for the upgrade to home and buisness, but when I open it and select amend, it doesn’t allow me to open a prior return. When I open my prior return, it doesn’t give me the option to amend. I tried to follow the steps outlined online but was unable to figure it out.

You'll need to file an amended return if you determine that you have made an error or have omitted something from your tax return.

Please read this TurboTax Help topic on how to amend a prior-year tax return.

Yes I have read that topic and followed the instructions. However, when I do what is listed on that link and click amend a prior years return on the desktop app there is no option to work on a prior return. When I open the return directly, it allows me to change data but does not follow what is said on that link (return not set to zero, no option to click amend, no option to file). I’m trying to figure how to amend given these issues

Run through the steps below again to be sure you didn't miss something.

  1. Open the TurboTax Desktop software for the year you're amending. For example, you must amend your 2023 return in the 2023 version of TurboTax. Allow any updates that are requested.
  2. Under "Hi, Welcome to TurboTax!" look for Need to Amend a Filed Return? Click the box for Amend a Filed Return.
  3. Select Amend for the return you need to amend. If the return you need doesn’t appear as an option, select Find a Tax File in the middle of the page to find and load the return.
  4. When the file opens, you should see "We'll help you change (amend) your return" with three steps to complete.
  5. Click Continue and answer the questions "Did you already file your return?" and "Tell us more..."
  6. On the page "What do you need to change on your return?", select Update next to the info you need to change.
  7. Continue through the screens, make the changes you need to make, then click Done.
  8. Follow the prompts to carefully answer the remaining questions, including the reason for amending your return.
  9. TurboTax will review your entries and let you know if there are any form errors.
  10. When you're ready, go to File and submit your amended return.
  11. Don’t forget to select Save As (or Duplicate on Mac) from the File menu when you save a copy of your amended return. This will preserve the tax return you originally filed. Give the file a different name from the original, like [tax year]_amended_tax_return_Smith.

Depending on the changes you made and your reason for filing an amended return, you may be able to e-file. Otherwise, TurboTax will guide you to printing the necessary forms to file by mail.
