Adjusted Gross Income (AGI)Reject Code IND-031-04

First time e-filing, filled out everything correctly and received this error code Adjusted Gross Income (AGI)Reject Code IND-031-04 and well, both my federal and state taxes were rejected. I filled out the form with correct gross income, so getting this error just doesn't make sense to me. And I must fix this "error" and re-send, but how do I fix it?

Thanks

If 2018 adjusted gross income (AGI) or self-select PIN you entered for yourself and/or your spouse doesn't match the numbers in the IRS database, you'll get one or both of these rejections:

  • IND-031-04: The primary taxpayer's AGI or Self-select PIN from last year does not match IRS records
  • IND-032-04: The spouse's AGI or Self-select PIN from last year doesn't match IRS records

Please click this TurboTax Help link TurboTax Online instructions for E-file reject IND-031-04 or IND-032-04: The AGI or Self-select PIN from last year doesn't match IRS records to learn more.

I'm helping my son file for 2019.  He did not file a claim in 2018.

I also needed to say that when I got to the "Let's get ready to file your return" part the question was did you file taxes in 2018 and TT said "just click on NO and the IRS  will enter in the 0.

The help article on this topic needs to be updated to include my situation. I received this rejection error as well, although I did file for 2018, but filed late and by paper submittal. Despite confirming that my 2018 AGI was correct by checking its IRS transcript on IRS.gov, the AGI was rejected as incorrect. I finally called TurboTax support who suggested I try 0 as my AGI (as suggested by these responses for a 2018 non-filer) which worked/IRS accepted my eFiling.

Yes it's because you filed late so the AGI was not in the right IRS database to verify you.  That is a very common situation.
