2024 fed amended return transmission trouble

Tried to submit 2024 fed amended return and see the error of "transmission trouble-Please try again" as in the snapshot. It asked me to select File tab to try transmission again. However there is no transmission choice in the File tab as in the second snapshot.

Transmission issues often are connectivity issues.  Here's How to Turn Off Anti-Virus Programs before retrying.   Some amended returns can be Efiled, and others can't.  If yours is one that can't, you should get a message regarding that.

1. I don’t have any anti virus software.

2. I don’t see any message saying that mine can’t be filed electronically. How do I check that?

Also does the information I posted as picture means that the transmission failed and I need to resubmit, or TurboTax cannot figure out it was successful or not?

You may need to do a manual update. Can you let us know if after the manual update you are able to file the federal amendment electronically?

Thanks I am using Mac, not windows. And TurboTax desktop, not online. So no cache, cookie or manual updates from the links you added.

You followed these update steps from the article?

  • Make sure you're running the program from the Applications folder, not from a mounted virtual drive or CD (if installing tax year 2023 or a previous version).
  • Wireless connections can be problematic. We recommend updating over a wired, broadband connection.
    • If you don't have access to broadband, try restarting your wireless router.
  • Empty the Trash.
  • Force the update to download and install.
  • If you're still having problems, turn off your computer, then your router, and lastly your modem, in that order.
    • Wait a minute or two, then turn your modem back on.
    • Wait another minute, then turn your router back on.
    • Once your router is back up, turn your computer back on and try updating again.

You may need to mail the amended Federal return. There will be an update this week. You could wait until after that, run the update and then try again. The update should come by Friday late afternoon.

I have the exact same problem when I tried to amend my tax, initial e-filing failed because the software needs to update, and then after updating, only state was e-filed successfully, federal seems to be stuck in the transmission trouble. I tried multiple things and it doesn't work. it seems the software thinks we have transmitted both federal and state amended, but the federal one failed.

Thanks for sharing. Do you have it fixed or what did you do in the end?

No, I am waiting for the fix or any clarification of what’s going on.

I am wondering if this means the both federal and state amend have been transmitted, jus the turbotax desktop cannot track the status for the federal. I am stuck in the loop as shown in the image.

There is an issue with efiling Federal Amended returns with a MAC. You will need to paper file your Federal Amended return.

There is a workaround. Would you be willing to try this workaround for testing purposes? It doesn’t always work, so I would need you to reply and let me know if this works for you.

This workaround, when it works, unblocks and resets the efile status for the tax return which could be achieved.

You need to change the SSN to dummy SSN (like all zeros in ssn) and perform check efile status, then re-enter your real SSN afterward.  The steps are listed below.

Steps:

  • Change SSN to dummy SSN (like all zeros in ssn) in personal info
  • Go to File tab and perform efile status check -> No status will be displayed
  • Changed SSN back to original SSN
  • Go to File tab and perform efile status check -> Will/Should show correct status for the filing
  • Go to file a return section and file amend return, the product will allow to file amend return now.

Thanks! It is actually working! I am able to efile the federal amend after following the steps. If you have already filed state amend, you can choose just to file the federal one. Thanks again for the trick and help.
