Bank of America routing number on check doesn't work for direct deposit or direct debit

If you're a Bank of America customer, you may have found that the routing number printed on your checks aren't being accepted by the bank for direct deposit of refunds or for direct debit of taxes owed.

This happens when the Bank of America routing number printed on the check differs from the routing number used for electronic transactions. Direct deposits and debits are electronic transactions, so the routing number from the check will not work.

Solution

Go to Bank of America's website and use the routing number in How do I know which ABA routing number to use? for your state.
