How can I get a copy of my W-2?

Your best bet is to ask your employer or payroll department for another copy of your W-2.

Although you may have previously filed with us, we didn't save a copy of your W-2. And if you used our mobile app to snap a picture of your W-2, it also hasn't been saved on your device.

How can I get a copy of my current or past W-2 online without contacting my employer?

Here are some options:

How do I get my W-2 if I didn't receive one?

Employers typically have until January 31 to issue W-2s to employees.

If it’s after January 31 and you still don’t have your W-2, reach out to your employer's payroll or human resources department to ask when and how they issued your W-2. If they mailed it to an old or incorrect address, the post office may have returned it to the employer.

  • If that's the case, you can ask your employer to reissue your W-2.

  • If your W-2 went missing because of a mail problem, you can use TurboTax to retrieve a copy. As long as your employer issued one, TurboTax can most likely import it.
