What is Form 8862?

Form 8862 is known as the Information to Claim Certain Credits after Disallowance form. It’s specific to the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Additional Child Tax Credit, Credit for Other Dependents, and American Opportunity Tax Credit. 

If you claimed one of these credits previously and it was reduced or denied, but you’re reapplying for the same credit again this year, you’ll need Form 8862. 

It’s easy to do in TurboTax. With your return open, visit the Deductions & Credits section and look for the applicable credit. Answer the questions accordingly and we’ll include Form 8862 with your return.
