In TurboTax Online, Step 3 under Finish & File is where you’ll be asked for some personal details to confirm your identity.
To e-file, the IRS requires the following information:
An Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN): This is a 6-digit number that the IRS gives taxpayers who were victims of tax-related identity theft. Find out if you or anyone on your return needs to provide an IP PIN.
Your prior-year adjusted gross income (AGI): This is also required for most taxpayers to e-file. Get more info about how to find your correct AGI.
Note: If your return doesn't include the required information, the IRS will reject your filing.
Once you have responded to the IP PIN and AGI questions, follow the instructions to transmit your return.
You’ll be asked if you have a state-issued driver’s license—this isn't required to e-file.
On the transmission screen, you’ll be asked to create a 5-digit Signature ID. This is sometimes called a Self Select PIN and can be used to authenticate next year in place of an AGI.
