How do I amend my 2024 tax return to correct the sale of business vehicles?
by TurboTax•1• Updated a day ago
Some TurboTax customers underpaid their 2024 taxes because they didn’t claim the correct amount of depreciation recapture on business vehicles sold.
As a result, some taxpayers need to amend their federal, and if applicable, state tax return.
To correct your return, please follow the steps below:
- Use TurboTax to amend your federal tax return and, if applicable, your state tax return.
- Enter “TO CORRECT DEPRECIATION RECAPTURE CLAIMED ON FORM 4797” as the reason for amending.
- Follow the instructions provided by TurboTax to e-file the amended tax return.
For the state amended return:
- If you live in these states, follow the TurboTax instructions to e-file your amended state return.
- Otherwise, you will need to print, date and sign the amended return and mail it to the address shown in the TurboTax instructions. Be sure to include your payment.
- Save a copy of your amended tax return(s) for your records.
