How can I find my prior year AGI on an IRS transcript?
Below is the full transcript for the above video.
When filing a federal tax return, the IRS requires you to authenticate your identity with information specific to the taxpayer. You can verify your identity with your prior year adjusted gross income, your 5-digit Self-Select Pin, or your Identity Protection Pin.
This video covers how to find your prior year adjusted gross income (or AGI) by getting an IRS transcript.
You need an ID.me account to access your prior year return. If you’ve already created an ID.me account, you can continue to the next step.
Visit www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript and select Sign in to your online account if you would like to download your transcript.
If you don’t need it right away, you also have the option to get your transcript by mail. If you select this option, you can leave the Customer File Number blank, as long as the transcript being requested is for you.
Select Sign in with ID.me. Enter the email and password used to create your ID.me account.
There are several types of transcripts to choose from. We recommend selecting the Account Transcript for the previous tax year. For example, if you’re filing a tax year 2025 return, you’ll need to access the Account Transcript for 2024.
Once downloaded, you’ll notice this looks very different from the 1040 return you likely submitted.
Notice Adjusted Gross Income near the middle of the first page. The amount listed to the right of adjusted gross income is the value you need to enter into TurboTax exactly as found on the transcript.
