SOLVEDby TurboTaxTurboTax Mac16434Updated 3 days ago

Note: Substitute XX in these instructions for the 2-digit tax year of your TurboTax software.

When opening TurboTax for Mac after installation, you may see the TurboTax checkmark icon bounce a few times before disappearing from the menu bar. This can be accompanied by the error:

TurboTax 20xx can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.

Here's how to fix it:

  1. In the error message, select Show in Finder
  2. The Applications folder should open, and your TurboTax 20xx product will be selected. Right click on the TurboTax 20xx product, and select Open
  3. A similar error message will appear, again saying, TurboTax 20xx can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software
  4. This time, select Open and TurboTax will properly install and open

Make sure you're using the following settings to allow TurboTax to install:

  1. Make sure you have administrator rights and the account you're using is the admin account
  2. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General.
  3. Select the Lock to make changes
  4. Then, select App store and identified developers under Allow applications downloaded from (if you're unable to choose it, select the lock icon and enter your admin password)

After opening TurboTax, you can put your computer's security settings back to the way they were.

If you recently upgraded your operating system, please follow these steps.

  1. Make sure you have administrator rights and the account you're using is the admin account
  2. Navigate to Applications folder
  3. Right click on TurboTax 20xx icon (If you aren't using a mouse, hold down your Control Key then select the TurboTax 20xx icon.)
  4. Select Open (If you aren't using a mouse, select Open from the pop-up screen)
