Does the program indicate if the error is with your federal or state return?
Which state are you filing in?
Doesn’t specify whether it’s federal or state. It just states “tax year 2021 transmissions are not available” and I file for North Carolina.

The North Carolina Individual Income Tax Return Form D-400 is not yet available for e-filing. It is estimated to be available on 02/24/2022
Go to this TurboTax website for North Carolina state forms availability - https://care-cdn.prodsupportsite.a.intuit.com/forms-availability/turbotax_nc_online_individual.html
If you want to e-file your federal tax return now then change how you file the NC state return. This assumes that all of the forms and schedules included in your federal tax return are available for e-filing.
If using the TurboTax online editions click on File on the left side of the online program screen. On Step 3 of the File section click on Start or Revisit. Select the button File by Mail. Then change the filing status of the state return.
After the federal return is e-filed and accepted by the IRS you can e-file the state return when it is available for e-filing. Just use the same procedure and change the state return back to e-filing.
This comment was incredibly helpful. Thanks so much for sharing. I was able to file my federal return and will wait until the end of the month to file my state return! Good looking out!
I received the same message when trying to transmit my Federal and NC State returns together. This occurred after receiving the message below:
The wait is over! The tax forms we needed to finish up your taxes are ready to go.

Do you have a state return? And if so, is it North Carolina by any chance?
NC forms (including the main Form D-400) are not yet finalized and available for efiling. Projected availability date is 2/24/2022, according to the availability tables:
State Forms Availability Table:
https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/forms/help/state-forms-availability-table-for-turbotax-individual-...
If you are awaiting state forms to be finalized, and if you wish to do so, you can efile the Federal return now (if all your Fed forms are available) and efile the state return later. To do that, you would need to temporarily change the filing method for the state return and tell TurboTax that you intend to "mail" the state return. Then when the state forms are available you can switch the method back to efile.
If you need to check on Federal forms:

OMG! I've been working on this since last week. I was able to file Federal but will wait awhile for the the NC State. Thank you so much for posting this! TurboTax use to be so simple, not anymore. I hesitated on using it this year but did it anyway.
Yes thank you! No one else knew the answer. Appreciate your help!
I just tried to file our state taxes today 1/26 and have received the same message even though up until the transmission part it says they are ready to file.
If you are filing your Federal and State together, please attempt filing each one separate. If it processes successfully, you can submit your State as soon as the Federal return shows accepted.
It is telling me that my transmission didn't go through. Is there a fix or is this being looked at ?
Don't know about MI...BUT..
NC recently issued a notice that they wouldn't start accepting any NC tax returns until 3 Feb.
SO I recommend you don't even try until after 3 Feb.....you might even get some more tax forms that need to be entered in the next week.
........have seen a lot of folks with that problem this week....filing.....the getting more tax documents in the mail they "forgot" about, and now they have a MAJOR filing problem to correct it.
What does it mean when it says Turbo tax is still working on making your Michigan return available to print or download ? Why is this happening ?
I think because the main MI tax form (plus a bunch of less-used ones), cannot be printed in their final layout until after 2 Feb. (one MI form was actually 16 Feb)
Some states allow e-filing before they allow the actual forms to be printed....likely as a way to encourage e-filing, and thus reducing the staff they have to hire to deal with paper-filed tax returns.
Check back on 3 Feb....maybe you can get it all then.
Hello,
I've submitted both Federal and State taxes multiple times and keep getting this message "Tax Year 2022 transmissions are not available". Is this a TurboTax issue or IRS? Are the documents saved so I can file at a later time if this problem gets fixed? What do I need to do now?
Thank you
