Will TurboTax Desktop applications from Year 2014 to 2020 continue to work on Windows 11?

I have contacted TurboTax about 5 times and spent hours but I cannot get an official response from Turbo Tax and oddly they don't publish any information about this.

There is a platform change from Windows 10 to 11.

Will the old Turbotax Desktop applications from Year 2014 which could be used on Windows 10 continue to work on Windows 11- please respond to this thread if you are sure of your information and not hypotheticals or possible or unsure replies- ONLY IF YOU KNOW IT WILL WORK FOR SURE AND HAVE SOME RESOURCES TO CONFIRM TESTING THIS THEN REPLY HERE PLEASE !!!!!! DO NOT WANT TO UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 11 AND REALIZE PAST YEAR TURBO TAX APPLICATIONS DO NOT WORK ON WINDOWS 11. There should be a way to open all past year taxes if necessary for lifetime without having to keep data on 3rd party servers for life as in the cloud.

(Sorry my username is stating something i tried to change but maybe it will take some time for the Servers to update.)

Well if you do get older years installed you won't be able to update them or download any state programs you need.  They only support the last 3 years.  So currently only back to 2018.  Just be sure to save each year as a pdf file with all the worksheets etc.

Thank you VolvoGirl.

Are you confirming that TurboTax will not support applications more than 3 years old to review data in Turbo Tax, and thus will not work?

PDF is not a substitute to provide the framework of the creation of the content in the pdf. The data in the application is critical to explain any audits of the pdf. Thus, I beg to disagree with this being a solution, but a problem.

The question still remains to Turbo Tax to confirm if these applications will continue to work on Windows 11 as they have worked on Windows 10 from Year 2014 onwards. Windows 10 creation was to stop these platforms disruptions on legacy applications, AND I am looking for Turbo Tax community or the Turbo Tax Developers to provide their real experiences/guidance in operating the Turbo Tax applications used on Windows 10 in the recent past; and now on Windows 11.

If there is something already published by Turbo Tax in reference to this (Wndows 11) that you are aware of, please share.

Virtual machines with such platforms as on Windows 8,7 and XP could run 2013 and earlier and thus the need to qualify the sensitivity of the platform to Turbo Tax Years. I am ready to move to Windows 11 but need to realize if my Turbo Tax applications from Year 2013 will work as normal. Thank you all.

Sincerely appreciate everyone's effort in supporting this thread. Thank you!

Why do you want to be able to open 2013 TurboTax in the  future ??

Make a PDF copy of all the filed tax returns from that year. put them in a folder named Tax2013.

You could also burn to a DVD if you are cloud-challenged or cloud-averse.

Print a paper copy of all the returns, and put them in the desk or file cabinet.

by "Upgrade" do you mean a new computer or updating your current OS?

if just an OS update from 10 to 11, there is a provision to revert back to 10 see this link

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/how-to-downgrade-from-windows-11-to-windows-10/ar-AAPyZSd

however, this is a temporary fix. sooner or later your old computer will not be compatible with future versions of windows.  for me No TPM and older CPU means, I can't update to 11

with a new computer even with the CD's to install older versions, assuming they'll install at all, what you have is a beta version of the program that does not reflect the tax laws for that year. As of now, no updates are available for years before 2018 and no state returns for those years.  TT only supports the current year and 3 prior years. if you install, say 2013, and open the .tax2013 file the return will change to reflect the beta program and not the return you filed.

Sorry ... but if you don't currently have the 2017and prior on your computer now it is too late to download them as TT doesn't support them.   Upgrading to OS 11 will not make the older programs unusable ... check by opening the currently installed programs.

Now  you should always save the return as a PDF (with and without the worksheets) for future reference when the program is no longer available.  Yes it is not the same but it is better than nothing.

TT has only supported the years still open to file for a refund so right now that is the 2018 - 2021.  This has always been the rule and it will not be changing so if your computer loses the program files they can no longer be downloaded or updated thus it is important to keep the PDF files which do not need the active program to read.
