Will Turbo Tax automatically calculate the $1,600 additional credit since I turned 65 in 2019 or must I have turned 65 in 2018?

Your date of birth must before January 2, 1954 to be eligible for the additional $1,300 to be added to the standard deduction for your filing status on a tax year 2018 return.

Standard deductions for 2018

  • Single - $12,000 add $1,600 if age 65 or older
  • Married Filing Separately - $12,000 add $1,300 if age 65 or older
  • Married Filing Jointly - $24,000 add $1,300 for each spouse age 65 or older
  • Head of Household - $18,000 add $1,600 if age 65 or older
