Will the IRS "ID.me" verification system be required to access future IP PINs?

I have applied and received an IP PIN from the IRS for the last two tax seasons.  I like the idea of the IP PINs, and would like to continue using them . . . HOWEVER, I do not want to sign up for the new, facial-recognition "ID.me" verification service that the IRS will require as of summer, 2022.  My questions:  Since I started requesting an IP PIN, will I have to continue using them now each year?  Is there a way to get them without signing up with "ID.me?"  Alternatively, can I stop using IP PINs?

In advance, thanks for your help on this.  I don't know where else to turn, and appreciate your thoughts!

in theory, the IRS is supposed to send you each year a notice (CP01A) about your new IP PIN

https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/get-an-identity-protection-pin#:~:text=An%20IP%20PIN%20is%20valid%20for%20one%20calendar,log%20in%20with%20the%20same%20username%20and%20password%3A

it appears ID.me will be required in future years to get the number online.

once you use an IP PIN you must continue regardless of whether you e-file or mail in your return.

Thanks, Mike9241, for answering all parts of my question--I appreciate it!  I did not receive my IP PIN by mail this year . . . do you know if anyone has?  I'm suspecting the IRS may no longer send them in the mail, and require "ID.me" verification to get them in the future?  I don't want to go down that road .. . . . oh, brother!  🙂
