Will I be subject to late filing penalties, if I submitted my 2017 taxes before the IRS extension 11:59:59 pm on April 18th, and received a rejection due to the payment?

I had submitted my taxes on 04/18/2018, and indicated the direct debit day to be 04/19/2018 as instructed.  I received a rejection email the following morning due to the direct debit date.  I resubmitted my taxes and now it shows 04/19/2018 as the date transmitted.

No, if you filed before the deadline and then received a rejection, you still have until April 23, 2018 to file again without incurring any penalties. After that date, you are subject to penalties and interest.

What if I e-filed before the April 18, 2018 deadline but my return got rejected?
