I was in college and graduated in June. I filed for medicaid last January and qualified based on my job at the time (assuming I would claim myself as single for 2016). I found myself unemployed for an extended period after graduating and my income for the year was less than expected so my mom will claim me on her return for obvious reasons. Is it possible I will be penalized? I am 23 currently. I won't be claimed for 2017 as I now have a full time job and am making much more.
Yes, being claimed as a dependent means your Medicaid eligibility is based on your parent's income.
Because will not be a dependent for 2017, that probably changes that. However, if you have a full-time job, you probably don't qualify for Medicaid now anyways.
He is correct. My parents wanted to do the same thing since I’m living w them & providing basic needs. I’m on Medicaid(expanded-NJ). Medicaid office mentioned same thing above, If claimed as dependent, status will change according to the parents income (& regardless if they are retired & only receiving SS)... if parents income is above the qualifying max income earned(in NJ for Single, it’s around $1300) they will be INeligible...
