When I filed my forms on TurboTax, I thought I had selected April 30 as the date I wanted my federal funds deducted from my checking account . However, my funds were deducted on April 18. Thankfully I had sufficient funds to cover the withdrawal. Understanding that federal taxes have to be filed by April 18 (I filed in February), why does TurboTax offer the option to delay the funds withdrawal until the 30th, and why were the funds withdrawn 12 days earlier than I specified? It seems I've had this option in the past and the funds were withdrawn on the day I specified.
You must have misunderstood something. Taxes owed are due and payable on April 18, 2023 to avoid a failure to pay penalty. If you did not enter a date of payment the default date is 04/18/2023.
TurboTax would have not accepted a date of payment after 04/18/2023.
I wish now I had made a screen shot of the page where I selected the date. I distinctly recall the page saying you can schedule the payment date any time between now (the date I filed) and April 30. I will tell you that in years past this has also been the case, and my funds were deducted at the end of the month. I cannot vouch for the previous year only because it was a rare year I received a federal refund.
Next February I will make a screen shot of that page and respond here, whether I'm right or wrong.
I personally wasn't impacted, but I'm curious to know if any other users saw what I saw.
