Why is the detailed view of my numbers different than the amount turbo tax says I owe?

Tax liability is 69201. taxes paid is 64669. credit is 1000. When I do the math 69201 - 65669 = 3632 but turbo says I owe 4692. How is this possible?

additional info under why do I owe 4692 says total tax is 7036. why is this number different than the tax liability under the detailed view?

I can't be sure, but you may have fallen victim to the Alternative Minimum Tax.

If you are Online, you can view your taxes and Schedules 1, 2, & 3

  1. On the menu bar on the left that shows.
  2. Select Tax Tools
  3. On the drop-down select Tools
  4. On the popup menu
  5. Select View Tax Summary
  6. On the left sidebar
  7. Select Preview my 1040.
  8. Schedules 1,2 & 3 are included if you scroll down past your 1040.
  9. To return to the entry screens press Back on the sidebar.

Please check line 17 on your tax return

This is ladled Amount from Schedule 2, line 3

On Schedule 2, line 3 includes the Alternative Minimum Tax

If you want to follow the documents through the Alternative Minimum Tax is calculated on FORM 6251
