In the Wages & Income -> Investments and Savings section, it clearly shows the amount I entered in the 1099-DIV form. However, if I click on Explain my taxes, the value shown in the donut chart is a different, much higher number. I wonder what's going on because I am pretty sure that I filled out the 1099-DIV form correctly.
In case you don't know what I'm talking about. Thanks for the help in advance
It's not clear why the numbers might be different and thank you for the screen images. We could be more specific if we might take a look at the tax return. Here is an option that would allow us to give more specific details for you.
If you would like to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information it would help. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions: (Don't forget to give us the state)
TurboTax Online:
Open your return -Go to the menu panel on the left side of your return and select Tax Tools.
TurboTax Desktop:
If you like, you can send a copy of your return that will be scrubbed to eliminate your personal data by using these steps:
We will be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return to provide you with a resolution.
Thanks for your response! I have the requested information below:
Token: 1300344
State: NJ
Thank you for sending your file. The dividends included in the 'Explain my taxes' includes the amount entered from a 1099-DIV and the dividends entered through your K1. These two added together equal the total.
Please update here if you have additional questions and we will help.
