Depending on your tax situation, you may not be able to proceed without upgrading to TurboTax Deluxe. Unfortunately, not all filers will qualify for the Free Edition. Some of the situations that are now in TurboTax Deluxe and TurboTax Live Deluxe, instead of in Free Edition, include:

  • Student loan interest deduction
  • Retirement savings contribution credit
  • Education credits
  • Child & dependent care credit
For the best way to know what forms are included in each version of TurboTax, please go to https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/free-edition.jsp scroll down a little bit until you see "tax forms". Click "tax forms" and you will be shown all the online programs and the forms they cover.

If you feel you are being asked to upgrade in error, you can try our "clear and start over" feature.

Note: In TurboTax Online, you can erase your return and start from scratch as long as you haven't submitted payment, deducted the TurboTax fee from your refund, or registered.

Please see the TurboTax FAQs below for more information.
