Why if the IRS is not starting to accept returns until jan 24th did mine get accepted early

They always start out with a small test batch ahead of the "real" opening date.   You got into that batch.  

Although the official start date is January 24, the IRS has started accepting small batches of returns a few days before for test purposes.
