Why dont I qualify as head of household? I have a dependent that is not related to me that made less than $4k in 2022 and I have payed more than half of living expenses.

I am filing as single, I payed for almost all living expenses between the two of us, and my dependent made less than $4,000 in 2022

In order for you to file HOH, your qualifying person must be a blood relative. It is possible for a person to be a tax dependent, yet not a qualifying person for HOH purposes.
