I need to clarify what you are asking so that I can answer properly. Did your original tax return get accepted when you e-filed? If it rejected, you would not need to do an amendment, you would correct whatever is wrong and then re-file. An amendment does have to be mailed, but is not necessary if the original return wasn't accepted. Please let me know if you need additional assistance.

Aw shoot. Wish i had of known this. Yes my original return was rejected, not accepted. And TT' s response emails firmly indicated that i needed to file amended return. Furthermore, TT charged me additional funds to correct. So wat do i do now? Just yesterday i got another " rejected" email. When i correct it it says i cant efile

What message are you receiving that prevents you from e-filing?

And just to make sure we're on the same page, this is your 2017 tax return, correct?

Is it possible that you went in and made changes to your original return and then when you couldn't e-file, you printed the return and mailed it in? What is the Form number in the corner of your tax form? An amended return is 1040X.

You need to delete the amended return. How to delete an Amended return in the Online version https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/4170678

Then try to fix your original return. Why did it reject originally?

Why was your original return rejected when you tried to e-file?

Here is the link to 'Clear and Start Over'. However, if you have already paid, you may not be able to. If you need instructions for how to get back to each area of the return, let me know. I can guide you through entering personal info, income, expenses, etc. Link: https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/4248526

Yes, I checked with my manager to ensure my instructions were correct. It was agreed that even though you mailed the 1040X, that without the original tax return, the 1040X would not make sense to the IRS, they need the original return. And that is what you are working on and will send in. They will most likely hold the 1040X and send out a letter to ask for more info and by that time, you will have submitted your original tax return.

First, you will need to delete the amended return. Even though you mailed it to the IRS, it will not be correct without the original return. The IRS needs your original return.

Follow the steps in this FAQ to delete the amended return:

https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/4170678

After you have deleted the amended return , you will be able to go back into the original return and make whatever changes you need to make. Do not choose to Amend, just go in and make changes. If you need further instructions about how to make changes to your original return (not Amend), please comment and I will assist further.
