Why does the review of my taxes show "Dividend Income Worksheet: Payer has too many characters."

I have shortened the payer names to 14 characters on both 1099-DIV and 1099-INT.   I have also tried the cursor trick for the name suffix.   I am still getting this blasted error.

Since it's likely that you imported the data, check for other instances where a worksheet or form still has the name with more than 15 characters.

If the IRS form 1099-DIV was imported and the name error persists, consider removing the entry and re-entering the information by hand.

Remove the entry by clicking the delete trashcan.

In TurboTax Online, report the dividend income as follows:

  • Down the left side of the screen, click Federal.
  • Down the left side of the screen, click Wages & Income.
  • Scroll down to Investments and Savings and click on the dropdown menu.
  • Click Start/Revisit to the right of Dividends on 1099-DIV.
  • At the screen Let's import your tax info, select Enter a different way.
  • At the screen OK, let's start with one investment type, select Dividends and Continue.
  • At the screen How would you like to upload your 1099-DIV, select Type it in myself.
