Why does my amount owed stay the same no matter if I claim minor child as a dependent?

Should we file separate and one of us claim her while the other gets the tax debt, if that's even possible?

1) delete the child and re-enter. Does that change anything?

2) assuming everything was entered correctly, at very low income levels, claiming the child has no impact.

how old is the child? what is your combined income (line 11)? look at lines 19 and 28 on Form 1040. What is posted there?

and filing "joint" is better than filing "separate". if you file Separate, you are not eligible for EITC.
