Why does it still say I owe on all my taxes, when I already paid them off for the year?

I paid my taxes off over a month ago and I logged into my turbo tax and it still says I owe all of my taxes. Why hasn’t it registered that my taxes are paid off?

Turbo Tax will always say the tax due or refund.  That is just the final result when you filed.  The IRS doesn't tell or update Turbo Tax when or if they get your payment.

So, is there a way to enter that you paid taxes into TT, because it's saying I owe a massive amount - but I paid that off.

For 2023 or a prior year?  How did you pay it?
2023 taxes paid will be on your W2 or 1099 as withholding or come from estimated payments you made during the year.

Please help me to understand.

  • You prepared a draft copy of your taxes.
  • You owed money.
  • Did you make the payment to the IRS with a voucher?
  • If you did, did you log it into TurboTax as an Estimated payment?

I know this does not completely answer your question, please contact us again and provide some additional details.

Why does my TT account say I still owe tax due?

TT does not update after your return has been accepted.  Your account will always show the result of the return you prepared using the software.  TurboTax never knows if you received your refund —or how, when or even if you paid tax due.  Your proof that you paid your tax will be your own bank/credit card records.

Directly to the IRS with a check, per standard method as a 1099-NEC contractor. I went over to TaxAct and checked out whether they'd pick up on it, and they did. When I file there, it picked up that I paid and applied it. There's also an option to enter what you paid if I wanted to.
