The IRS changed the tax forms and some things that used to be on the base form have been moved to schedule 1 or schedule 3. Turbotax decided to restrict free-filing to only the basic 1040 this year, which means some customers no longer qualify for fee filing.
If your income is less than $34,000 and you don't qualify for the regular free version due to your tax situation, you can use the Freedom edition (IRS Free File alliance). This is sponsored in part by the IRS and includes complicated forms not normally included in the "regular" free version of Turbotax. The IRS requires it to be a separate web site, and you must create a different account to use TaxFreedom, you can't use your existing Turbotax account. You will need to start over from scratch. If your web browser tries to automatically log you into the regular version. you may also need to clear your browser cache and cookies before logging in to the Freedom site. https://turbotax.intuit.com/taxfreedom/
