Why do I have to complete the W4 calculator in order to file?

I started entering info into the W4 calculations while I was working on my taxes. I decided I didn't want to complete this step but before I could file my taxes it made me complete all info into the calculator. I want to make sure that I'm not transmitting anything to the IRS to adjust my withholdings.

No, you do not need to complete this. The W-4 calculator doesn't submit anything for you. It will print out form W-4 with your tax filing PDF (after you E-file) and you must give it to your employer. Your employer will then change your withholding (how much they withhold for taxes from your paycheck).
