Why didn't I get my full federal return? I checked the IRS website and it said the amount on my return, but I'm missing about $200. Paid fees before filing the return.

I paid all of the filing fees to Turbo Tax before I sent in the e-file of the return. I got the return from the bank connected to Turbo Tax but it was missing about $200. I went to the IRS website to check and it said the same amount that I was told I'd get from the accepted return form.

If the refund came through the 3rd party bank then you DID have the fees deducted from your refund.  Did you pay the fees with a credit card before you filed?  Maybe you added a state return or other service after you paid.

If you requested to have the TurboTax account fees paid from the federal tax refund, those fees would not have been paid when you filed the tax return.  They are paid after the federal tax refund is received from the IRS by Santa Barbara Tax Products Group.  TPG deducts the TurboTax account fees and their service charge then direct deposits the remaining tax refund into your account.

So the amount you received is less the TurboTax account fees and the $39 service charge from TPG.

Hi! So my state return came back fine. The. For my federal one, my return was about $1,250. I used the return to pay the Turbo Tax fees, which made my total return around $1,000. It was approved and I checked my IRS status and it said the same $1,000 and change that was on my return that was filed, with the approved verification. I got a direct deposit from TPG Products LLC for around $850. I really have no idea what I’m talking about so I hope this makes some sort of sense.

The IRS doesn't know about the fees.  So if the IRS shows 1,000 then they reduced your 1250 refund to 1,000.  That is before the fees come out.  So they only sent 1,000.  Then the 150 fees are deducted Leaving you the 850.  The IRS will mail a letter saying what they changed.
