Why did 2022 TurboTax take so much less time to complete?

Every year, it takes me from 8-12 hours to do my taxes using TurboTax Deluxe. 
This year, I noticed the changes in the overall look and feel of the system and noticed everything was way less cluttered. 

What frightens me is that it only took me 3.5 hours to do my taxes this year. 

Did others have this experience?

Is the reason because TurboTax streamlined things SO MUCH or because of some other reason? I hope I didn’t somehow select a “light” or “quick” version for figuring my taxes.

  • TurboTax assists you in getting the right software to do the right job.  
  • You did not get a lite version.
  • Each year we try to improve the knowledge base that we offer our clients.  That may have helped.
  • Also, you are getting more familiar with where you should put things.  You don't have to search for everything.

One reason my tax entry was much faster this year was that I used the standard deduction because it is so much higher now. It is so much better now that I use that figure rather than itemizing. I no longer have to enter all the charity donations, mortgage interest, etc. That saves me a great deal of time!

If you give to charity, you should still TRY to itemize. My itemized deduction was TWICE what the standard deduction was and I only had charity and whatever deduction I got for being a homeowner of a cheap condo.
