Why can't I redeem the Quicken Starter offer in Turbotax 2020?

Turbotax 2020 has an offer of 1 year free subscription to Quicken Starter included as part of a p[urchase on Amazon.  But when you click on the Claim Offer button it always says "Oops, we had a hiccup.  We can't connect to Quicken right now.  Please try again later."  But it never works regardless of day or time attempted.  How can I redeem this offer?

Was on the Amazon website and did not find any TurboTax 2020 with a Quicken Starter offer.

Do you have a link?

You would have to ask Amazon.    TurboTax and Quicken at two totally different companies.    If a retailer is making a special offer, contact the retailer.

The offer is embedded in the Turbotax software start page. You click the "Claim this offer" button and the error message pops up saying try again later, but IT NEVER WORKS later.  When I research the problem, this method has been present within the Turbotax software for at least two years in its present format.

I have a new computer, the Turbotax software is loaded and functional, there's no code or mail-in stuff to do, and I'm no computer/network noob --- the button to collect the offer simply doesn't work.  I'm curious why Intuit doesn't remove it or try to fix it.

Ok...I saw it at the very bottom of the product description.  That is an offer directly from Amazon.  TurboTax nor Intuit are involved in that offer.  Intuit sold Quicken several years ago.

You will need to contact Amazon if the Quicken link is not working.

  • Exclusively at Amazon, receive a free 1 year subscription to Quicken Starter Edition ($35.99 value) with your purchase of TurboTax (applies to new Quicken subscribers only)

"Exclusively at Amazon..."   exactally.    Something that Amazon is offering.    Nobody here knows anything about Amazon and their "exclusive" offers - ask Amazon.

This is an issue with the product.

It says the following further down on the Amazon page:

To redeem your Quicken offer and get more information about Quicken, install your TurboTax software and click “Claim this offer” (applies to new Quicken subscribers only)

In the past this link worked a few years ago.

That is an *Amazon* offer, not TurboTax.   Only the Amazon download has that offer - talk to Amazon.

Right, and I can confirm with my recently downloaded Amazon version of TurboTax that the link does not work.

This is a joint marketing effort between the two companies that is delivered through the software of one of them. This seems like an appropriate venue to bring it up.

Amazon customer support says ---

Vishesh | Customer Service

In this case, I request you to please contact the developers as this link is provided in that software and that is not controlled from our end and if there is a website related issue also they will be able to best assist you in both the case.

Me ---
Yes, but that why I contacted Intuit first, and they pointed me to Amazon. So can you hook me up with someone at Amazon's Marketing offer/promotion department responsible for this offer?
Or escalate this to their marketing team?
Before a class-action lawsuit gets launched?

We are just other users like you and not TurboTax employees.  This is a discussion forum, not TurboTax support.   I have the 2020 TurboTax download and there is no such offer or link that I see at all.

You can try contacting TurboTax support, but they will probably tell you the same thing.

There is no single published number because it changes contently depending on the nature of the call and agent availability. Following the link below will either give a current number for you to call or take your number for a callback.

(Note that phone support is for paying customers only. There is no phone support for Free Customers.)

Here is a TurboTax FAQ for contacting customer support.

From TurboTax, link to the Quicken promo does not work.  Amazon says it is an Intuit problem, Intuit says it is a Quicken problem, so one big circle jerk and still no ability to claim the promo offer.

Amazon support refers me to Intuit.

Yea this is patently absurd. As of now my hope is that a product update will fix this, or otherwise I am going to request a refund from Intuit since the promotion was the only reason I bought it on Amazon.

If you look at the opening screen in

TurboTax2020 At the bottom of the page you will see the offer for Quicken2020.  It is through Intuit and it states nothing about the length of the relationship with Intuit.

If Quicken, TurboTax, and QuickBooks were different companies, then why do they all fall under the same website for support and reference?  Because they are all part of Intuit.

So the banner for the offer in TurboTax is not being honored by Intuit?  There is some Customer Protection in place to prevent this.

Quicken is no longer part if Intuit.  They sold Quicken like 4 or 5 years ago.  Go to the Quicken Forum here…

That's interesting - I had no idea that Quicken had spun off from Intuit in 2015. Interestingly, Intuit still owns the name "Quicken" and licenses it to Quicken.

The question remains, though - why does Turbotax 2020 include a link on the file opening page for a free one year subscription to Quicken Starter? I, too, wanted that free trial, and wanted to start it with the beginning of the year. (I ended up on this forum because I was getting the same "Oops we had a hiccup!" message when I clicked on the "Claim this offer" button.)

I'll be interested to see if Intuit/TT has an answer.

I would agree with the individual who posted the image showing the offer within TurboTax 2020's software, offering Quicken 2021 within the TT software as part of purchase.  Not an Amazon deal...it is a Intuit deal.  The same link worked in last year's software as they had they offer for at least the last couple of years.

Yes, Intuit sold Quicken years ago and it is now overpriced yearly subscription crap, but that doesn't mean that they can't have this deal offered in TT.  It appears that Intuit either forgot to remove the deal as they no longer have the permission for the offer  or forgot to update the link to get the deal.  With Intuit getting sloppy with its lacked of a detailed update history log..neither is a surprise.    Personally, I say stick with an old version of Quicken, the new version is the same with the exception of charging you yearly now instead of having to renew every 3 years.

Just found this article published online... so I guess that answers the question on why it isn't working.   And yes to Intuit being sloppy with updating their software.

Updated on Saturday December 19th, 2020: For all of you folks looking to find the TurboTax-Quicken bundle from previous years, we’re sorry to say they it’s no longer being offered. That’s because Quicken is no longer part of the Intuit software family as the brand was sold off a few years ago (the buyers being a few old Quicken executives which spun off a new company).

But not all is lost — You can still pick up the the Quickbooks-TurboTax bundle discount. You can also check out our main TurboTax deals page for all the latest, up-to-date deals and coupons available on TurboTax software.

I saw that article too, but I don't think it's an official statement from either company but instead an independent software reseller. This deal was available in the past post spin off.

Wrong this is NOT an Amazon offer the OP is talking about it's an Intuit TT offer! This is an offer embedded in the TurboTax Software not the Amazon webpage. The link for the offer comes up in the process of installation. I bought TT Premier CD version from Amazon and I have the offer plain as day. The link which it says is to Intuit Servers however does not work. I have read that Intuit had this offer several years ago within TurboTax. Could it be that Intuit is so inept as to not take this broken link out after they sold the Quicken Software rights to another company?

I called TurboTax and got the run around from some lady that Intuit knew nothing about the offer. She told me to call Quicken support. Curious since the offer was embedded with Intuit's software and they claim no knowledge.
